One Thames City (JRL Group)

One Thames City is a landmark residential-led mixed-use development located in Nine Elms, Vauxhall, London. Part of the wider Nine Elms regeneration zone – one of Europe’s most ambitious urban redevelopments К the scheme delivers high-quality homes alongside exceptional resident amenities and extensive public realm. The development includes two primary residential towers of 52 and 42 storeys, delivering 524 high-specification residential units, plus wellness facilities, leisure spaces, retail outlets, restaurants, and public parkland. An Energy Centre to the northwest of the site services the development with capacity for future expansion within the Nine Elms area.

SRA Swift Trading’s Role: SRA Swift Trading provided specialist onsite engineering and coordination support as part of the broader subcontractor delivery on behalf of JRL Group – the appointed main contractor for One Thames City. The role focused on precise survey, setting-out, coordination, quality assurance, and interface with multiple trades to support slipform and wider construction operations.

Role: Site Engineer - Slipform (SRA Swift Trading)

The One Thames City project showcases SRA Swift Trading’s capability to deliver precision engineering support on complex, high-rise mixed-use developments. By successfully executing detailed setting-out, coordination, quality control and site engineering functions, SRA Swift Trading played a vital role in enabling JRL Group to deliver this high-profile landmark in London’s Nine Elms regeneration, contributing to the project’s overall quality, safety, and success.

Scope of Works

  • Setting out for site activities and undertaking as-built recording using topographical equipment including Topcon station.

  • Liaison with subcontractors, consultants, planners, supervisors, quantity surveyors and the general workforce to ensure alignment across trades.

  • Providing effective leadership to contract workers, applying critical thinking and problem-solving to address site-specific engineering challenges.

  • Ensuring that materials used and work undertaken complied with technical specifications, including regular site calibration checks.

  • Calculating and ordering concrete volumes to support slipform pours while optimising material usage and delivery scheduling.

  • Maintaining awareness and compliance with site HS&E procedures throughout project execution.

  • Conducting quality checks and pre-pour inspections, and overseeing aspects of document control by verifying drawings, quantities and plans for accuracy.

  • Attending daily site meetings to provide progress updates, proposals, and technical recommendations to the project team.

Safety and Compliance

Project Significance

  • One Thames City forms a key part of the Nine Elms regeneration programme — transforming former industrial land on the south bank of the River Thames into a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood, centred on high-quality living and public spaces.

  • The development delivers 524 high standard residential units across two major towers with comprehensive resident facilities including wellness centre, gym, and one of Europe’s largest indoor residential swimming pools.

  • The success of the setting-out and slipform engineering activities was critical to achieving structural precision and programming targets across the high-rise towers and podium levels.

Environmental Considerations

The team supported waste reduction and efficient material utilisation practices, maintaining environmental protocols during slipform operations and liaising with JRL Group safety and compliance teams to minimise onsite environmental impact.

Technical Expertise

  • SRA Swift Trading demonstrated strong technical competence throughout their involvement, including:

  • High-accuracy setting-out using industry-standard surveying tools to support complex vertical construction and ensure alignment with architectural and structural designs.

  • Effective coordination with multiple trades and stakeholders to maintain constructability and minimise rework during slipform operations.

  • Rigorous quality control and pre-pour checks that upheld specification compliance and reduced risk during concrete placement.

  • Strong communication and reporting skills during daily technical coordination meetings, supporting transparency and timely decision-making across the project team.
